I have been living on the planet for around 48 years, and, I suppose it was because I grew up in the extremely multicultural and multi-religious suburbs in the USA, I remember being fascinated starting at around 5 years old by the huge variety of things people believe and don’t believe and think and how that affects the way they live, behave, and express themselves… Since everyone on my block believed such radically different things about creation, the meaning life, and the afterlife, it became impossible for me to believe, which led to a kind of low grade anxiety happening a lot of the time, I felt a bit overwhelmed by this meaning I could not participate in.
Later at University at UCSB, when I was studying acting in their Stanislavsky based conservatory for the first time, performing our breathing, voice and movement exercises, led to me and many of my sensitive classmates to feel a kind of embodied joy, real presence, relaxation, accompanied by self trust, ease, gratitude, freedom, and self love, which happened (and still happens) almost every time I do this work. A friend Olga later called it a positive side effect of this higher self work! This has naturally greatly motivated me to use these techniques in my own work, to teach them, and to be highly curious what others exist and how they can expand my self knowledge and self expression as a human being, a performance maker and teacher…
Ever since I have been looking for ways to deepen and further ground this work on self knowledge, self love and freedom. That was in fact why I decided to stay in Prague and learn Czech, in order to study Ivan Vyskočil’s wonderful self dialogical improvisational path – Dialogical Acting with the Inner Partner at DAMU. Other important inputs along the way have been Chi Gong, Contact Improvisation, Butoh, Wim Hof’s work, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Aikido, and recently Roy Hart Extended Vocal Technique…
● In 2021, all events at ALTA are free! ●
During the pandemic, we did not have the opportunity to meet you in person and open ALTA to the general public. Now that we can do it, we want to be even closer to you. We decided that we would not collect any entrance fees for our programs in 2021, so that really everyone could come. Culture to all!
Please observe the current hygiene measures.
