“Studio Performance Art”, in short SPA, is a year-long program cycle focused on performance art. Every month, this cycle presents a performance or a discussion that is open to both professional and general public. SPA examines a medium that may seem little known and marginal to someone; others consider it as elitist, accessible only to specialists in the field. The purpose of this cycle is to question what is being said about performance art and to present it as a complex art form that can gain many different shapes.
The events are based on openness, experiment, and dialogue. As the abbreviation SPA indicates, we emphasize the common caring, and the purifying and cathartic effect of arts and personal meetings.

The aim of this cycle is not only to present artists working in the field of performance art, but also to create space for different curatorial approaches. Our intention is to make the curatorial position accessible, to allow new contributors to enter the stage and thus provide space for the development of individual curatorial practices.

Via this open call, we are looking for artists, theorists, curators, or collectives, who would be interested in curating their own event within the cycle. Preference will be given to candidates, whose voice or approach has not yet been given sufficient space. We do not require professional curatorial experience, but we are looking for those for whom performance art curation means a possibility for personal development and an impulse for new dialogues and collaborations.

A total of 2 curators or collectives will be selected, whose task will be to prepare one of the two events (each prepares one event).

Despite the fact that we want to give the invited curators and collectives as much freedom as possible in their approach, it is necessary to take into account the SPA cycle itself, of which they will become a part and with which the proposed concepts should therefore work.
CONDITIONS
– The proposed event can take place in the interiors and halls of Studio ALTA, as well as in public spaces or online. It is possible to present local (Prague and non-Prague) as well as international artists and their participation can be combined with a short-term residence (2 – 5 days).
– Events will be created in cooperation with the SPA curatorial team.
– The budget for artistic fees is 4,000 czk per event (proposed events must take this financial reality into account).
– Fee for curator/s is 4,000 czk per event.
– Studio ALTA can also cover travel costs (up to 1,000 czk), provide accommodation and cover small material costs.
– Studio ALTA will also provide technical support for the entire event, production, promotion, and PR.
