Summer Series of Workshops for Parents of Young Children

🤍

What does our typical day look like as primary caregivers?
Who do we meet and spend time with alongside our children throughout the day?
What happens to our social lives when caregiving fills most of our day, especially during a child’s first three years?

🤍

We invite you to a series of creative gatherings that provide a space for sharing experiences, seeking support, and reflecting together on how to rebuild vibrant communities from isolated nuclear families.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

𖦹 Parents of young children aged 0+ to 12 years.

𖦹 Childcare will be provided for children aged 1.5 years and older. Younger children, as well as those who aren’t quite ready to be separated from their parents, are welcome to join the workshop.

WHAT WILL THE WORKSHOP OFFER ME?

Each session stands on its own—you can attend just one or join the entire series.

Together, we will:

𖦹 share our everyday experiences with caregiving

𖦹 identify obstacles and sources of support

𖦹 explore ways to foster greater closeness and collaboration

𖦹 imagine how caregiving and social life could work differently.

As a participant, you can actively share or remain silent, listen, or simply be with others. The goal of the meetings is also to create new bonds between parents and strengthen a sense of belonging in the daily reality of caregiving.

Information for non-Czech speakers: The first and fourth meetings will be interpreted into English.

1st meeting – The Daily Reality of Care (ENGLISH-FRIENDLY)
Together, we will map out what a typical day looks like for a caregiver and where fatigue, isolation, and small or greater joys arise. We will identify barriers to connecting with others and open up sharing in a safe environment.

2nd meeting – The Inner World in the City Streets
We will focus on what we experience when we leave home with our children and enter public spaces—both in our minds and in our bodies. Through writing and sharing, we will explore moments of connection, tension, and (in)visibility.

3rd meeting – How to Break Free from Fixed Ideas?
Together, we will imagine what a support network around us might look like—people, places, and institutions. We will connect the experiences from previous meetings and look for concrete possibilities for change.

4th meeting – Small steps (ENGLISH-FRIENDLY)
We will focus on what is realistically possible to change in everyday life—both individually and collectively.
We will create small, concrete steps that can strengthen connection, support, visibility, and sharing.

WHO IS ORGANIZING THE WORKSHOPS?

The workshops will be led by artist and theater director Marika Smreková, who has long been involved in participatory art, community work, and the topic of involving caregivers in cultural life.

The project builds on the Parent-Friendly Culture (PFC) platform, which aims to fully engage parents in cultural and social life and to remove the barriers that prevent them from doing so.

The project is being developed as part of the “To je moje místo” program with the support of Kreativní Praha and in partnership with the Prague 7 City District, Studio ALTA, and Hravá Tusarka (DDM Praha 7). Thank you very much!
