Information

Drifting clouds, restless birds and a lonely ambassador of humanity.
A multisensory collage of migrations: leaving the nest, returning in cycles, or sent into exile. In this interactive performance lecture myths meet memory, and salt meets the sky. Postcolonial storytelling tells us about planetary aches, and entangles us with ecology through scents, sounds and taste.
Flamingoes are not born pink: their color is borrowed from the world they consume. The Jacobin Cuckoo has probably never flown over the Church of the Jacobins in Toulouse. The Golden Record contains greetings to the universe in 55 different languages from the earth.
Yet, have you ever tasted rain as it falls?

Nitish Jain’s artistic practice crosses the mediums of architecture, performance art, storytelling and making objects. Born in India, he is based in Prague, Czechia. He trained as an architect and a scenographer. He makes multi-sensory experiences and invites audiences to engage with art sensorially. He incorporates touch, taste, smell, listening and vision through participatory performances, lectures, one-to-one theatre and spatial atmospheres. His approach with the senses draws from the Indian rasa aesthetics (denoting flavour or evocative phenomena) and phenomenology. His works bring audiences into layered discourses on post-coloniality, the Anthropocene and the climate crisis; and through sensory methods he addresses themes of fatigue and rest – for both human and ecological wellbeing. His works have been showcased at various international art festivals across Czechia, Germany, India, UAE and in regions and communities in Italy, Norway, Portugal and the UK.
