Information

The potency of plants has a non-binary quality that does not distinguish the simple opposites of good and evil, for all life forms strive to flourish. Sensuality is both playful and mischievous, the power of pharmakons, such as the plant Atropa belladonna, is inherent, a result of their virile liveliness. It is not derived from social or ecological hierarchies. The performance Good Gardens employs the metaphor of a garden as a place for discipline and cultivation, but also the metaphor of small acts of violence occurring in gardening in relation to the anthropomorphic – especially queer – body. Plant’s life time and its tendrils should not be viewed as linear time, but rather a time of growth and cycles, one that emerges organically, through queer and inter-subjective magical reality as well as rock erosion and (primary) ecological succession. Time is made up of movement, in between the horizontal and vertical matrices, of echolocation, by hanging and circling around.

Good Gardens is Tereza Silon’s research-based solo stage performance with a live musical score by Maria Čtveracková aka Mary C, a Renaissance curator, DJ and sound artist. Dramaturgy and technical support for shibari is guaranteed by a leading Czech rigger, Edna, known for her attention to detail.

*Artists‘ bios:

Tereza Silon is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, and researcher. Her interests span the fields of experimental, living, erotic, queering, herbalism, plant life, ecologies, intersectional practices, corporeality, autoethnography, and mythological and mythologizing approaches. Irreverence as well as dedication and sanctity without pathos, which creates a new temporality and intimacy in contemporary extractive systems, are important to her.

Marie Čtveráčková aka Mary C is a curator, DJ and sound artist who explores sound and music and their socio-economic context and transformative potential. She is fascinated by the potential of harmony and tone colours. In her quest for a new sound space, booming rhythmic compositions and restless flows of sound colours play a key role. She searches for a new relationship to playing a violin and new forms for found recordings. Mary C does not consider it necessary to lock sound into an immutable form to present it as a monologue. Her recent collaborations include artists Lucía Rosenfeldová, Eva Koťátková, and Terezá Silon.

Edna, a leading Czech rigger, provides dramaturgical support for shibari. Edna is known for her attention to detail. In the way she approaches the tying, audiences can easily sense the depth of emotion and intimacy Edna shares with her partners. She also teaches shibari. Edna is an experienced instructor, with technical skills and authenticity of tying guaranteed in any performance.
