SPOLK: On the Spot
On the Spot is a format of dance improvisation in unconventional public spaces where anything can happen. It involves connecting the venue, the performers, the music, and the audience, with an emphasis on the process rather than just the final result. This concept allows us not only to perform, but also to explore and experiment right before the audience’s eyes. We believe that the creative process is just as valuable as the result, and we want to offer this experience to both ourselves and the audience. Improvisation has long been a key part of our creative work, and our experience and friendships give us confidence that this format can be compelling.
SPOLK is an artistic collective of young professional dancers. It was founded in 2020, and since then has invited professional artists from other artistic disciplines to collaborate. The members of the SPOLK collective are graduates of the Duncan Center Dance Conservatory in Prague and the Academy of Performing Arts. The group was formed in response to the long-standing interest of its individual members in collaborative creation.

Geile Zeit Studios: Geile Zeit
“What is that door there? Ah, It’s just a normal house door, can I open it? No, it is locked, because someone is living there.”
An empty street, a newspaper sliding down, somebody is too hot and needs to lay down.
Next to a door, next to a neighbour, who is looking from their balcony. Observing those strangers.
A plastic cat and weird noise coming out of a boom box. Three dancers dancing in the streets, searching for a stage. Showing up and being present: A presence that keeps and seeks attention from passersby, friends, strangers, the streetlight, bushes, houses, shopping carts, walls, etcetera. Is the neighbour part of the staging.
Maria, Noah and Konstantin search for specific sides to interrupt everyday life. What’s happening here in the streets of Libeň, Prag. Alongside studio research, they are engaging with the neighborhood itself as an active collaborator. Encounters with local rhythms, architecture, histories, and everyday situations will inform the development of the work.
Maria O’Herce, Noah Rees, and Konstantin Wloch began collaborating in 2024 through the ongoing performance project Geile Zeit under the name of the collective: Geile Zeit Studios. Their practice is rooted in collaborative performance-making that moves between dance, physical theatre and situational choreography. The collective is interested in how stories emerge through presence, shared imagination, and the concrete conditions of a space. Rather than starting from fixed narratives, they build performative worlds through intuition, play, and collective decision-making. Geile Zeit, named after a famous early-2000s German pop song, plays on the ambiguity of ‘geil‘, a commonly used slang term meaning ‘cool, ‘great,’ or ‘hot‘. The word Zeit means time in German. The name refers to the irony of always having a Geile Zeit/a good time which is impossible.
