We invite you to A.REAL Talk and to the specific ways of inhabiting our bodies and creating space for dialogue. Beyond time and space, beyond the everyday fight for survival, there is a space of infinity, where borders are meaningless, struggles for power transform into smiles and contradictions cooperate. We will show videos, talk and create a space for us to experience different perspectives, embodied practices and tools for working towards a better and (more) sustainable dance environment.
Join us on October 17, 18 PM at Studio ALTA to meet and talk with AREAL’s artists in residence in Studio ALTA about the future of contemporary dance and find new updates from the Romanian dance scene.
Focusing on research and well-being, developing new collaborations and exchanges with colleagues and structures from different corners of Europe, all are very important subjects for us, especially after the pandemic time and the recent war in Ukraine. Following our premiere in Prague – In the Search of the Lost Body, and in the opening of new residency AREAL.Exchange with Studio ALTA (2023-2025), we invite you to a lively conversation about how we can imagine new models of collaboration and exchange that are able to improve our fragile dance ecosystem.
AREAL | space for choreographic development is a young and new artist’s runs space based in Bucharest, open to research, collaboration and exchange, which supports artistic creation, professional development and the dialogue between artists, public and the contemporary dance scene. The space creates contexts, provides resources and supports the mobility of professional dance makers with a view to the development of the contemporary dance sector in Bucharest & Europe. Launched in early 2020 by Gabriela Tudor Foundation in collaboration with the Association for Theatre and Books – PETEC, Delazero Association, Indie Box and choregrapher Andreea Belu in the frame of „4 Bodies | Colective for Dance (2020-2021)”, cultural programme co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, AREAL is now co-directed collectively since January 2021 by choreographers Alexandra Bălășoiu, Cristina Lilienfeld, Cosmin Manolescu and Valentina De Piante.
A.REAL Talk is part of the AREAL.Exchange residency programe with Studio ALTA, a cultural project co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague, National Recovery Fund and Next generation EU

AREAL Space opened in March 2021 as a small and cosy dance house of 300 sqm2 in the middle of Bucharest. The space has 2 dance studios, one accommodation room for artists with private bath and kitchen, a lounge, 2 terrasses with a nice view of Bucharest, showers, toilets and kitchen. AREAL offers direct support to projects initiated by its founders and other dance makers aiming to increase the cohesion within the choreographic field, to develop and attract new audience categories to contemporary dance. Currently AREAL is organising an annual dance season with performances, workshops, residencies and research labs. Since 2021 AREAL has been a member of European Dancehouse Network and co-hosted in June 2023 the General Assembly of EDN in Timisoara, in connection with the European conference “Dancing from Burnout towards Equity”.
