Information

The annual scythe mowing event will be held in Stromovka Park… and you should properly prepare for that. We are excited to invite you to Studio ALTA to hone your scythe sharpening skills and learn folk songs sung during haymaking!

🌿Hammering 15:00-20:00 – follow the ringing sound of the hammer hitting the scythe

🌿Singing 18:00-19:30 -members of the Lada choir will teach you traditional folk songs sung during haymaking. With guidance of the musician and cimbalom band leader Marek Potěšil from Horňácko, men will learn ‘mowing’ songs, while women will join the Lada choir female singers in singing ‘lawn’ songs, sung in the meadow during a hay raking break. And, of course, we’ll do something together – boys and girls together.

Look forward to wonderful songs from south-eastern Moravia, central Slovakia, and also some gems from Bohemia!

🌿❤️ Wondering why a hammering and singing workshop?🌿❤️

Hand mowing starts with proper preparation. One should be able to hammer and adjust the scythe correctly, plus every proper mower or harvester should be equipped with a sweet song that could embellish the meadow as beautifully as the rows of mowed grass.

If you would like to sharpen and adjust your own or borrowed scythe (complete beginners are welcome) or learn to sing the so-called mowing and lawn songs, i.e. traditional folk songs sung to mowing and raking, do not hesitate to come and join us. Everyone is welcome!

🌿❤️🌿❤️🌿❤️

You are invited to this scythe hammering event by Marek, Lada, Petra, Štěpa, Anežka, Bára, Studio ALTA, and the Forests of the Capital City of Prague, who keep the grass standing, acquired sponsored scythes, and support all Prague reapers.
