Information
In this interdisciplinary workshop organized as part of the House of Research residency, we will explore the intersection of the body, art, and humor. How does it feel to embrace nakedness as an artistic medium? What possibilities does it open up for play, humor, and expression beyond societal norms?
Together, we will delve into how the body—free from shame and stereotypes—can become a powerful tool of expression. Through exercises inspired by clowning, performance, and movement, participants will access new forms of creativity and self-awareness. This is not about provocation but about the question: How can nakedness be used as a desexualized and humorous element in art?
This workshop is open to anyone curious to experiment with their body, push artistic boundaries, and embrace humor with ease. No prior experience in performance or theater is required—just an open mind and a willingness to explore.

Lokke Wurm (they/them) is a trained clown (School for Clowns, Mainz /Germany) and physical theatre performer (Atelier for Physical Theatre, Berlin). Their work revolves around transformation, exploring the grotesque, transgression, and failure to challenge audience perceptions. Blending clowning with Butoh, object theatre, pantomime, and dance, Lokke uses their own body as both material and medium. As a non-binary Russian-German artist, they embrace “in-betweenness,” with the clown acting as a bridge
between worlds. Their practice emphasizes collective creation and audience interaction as a ritual of mutual transformation. Humor, both complex and unifying, remains central to their artistic exploration.

Why Am I Doing This Workshop?
This year, I am conducting artistic research through various residencies, collaborating with artists from disciplines such as clowning, dance, and object theatre. My project, N.H.C.O. (Nudity, Humor, and the Clown Nose as an Object), explores the intersections of these elements. This workshop is the second in a series of explorations taking place throughout the year.
N.H.C.O. is dedicated to the artistic and political deconstruction of the clown figure in contemporary circus. It examines how nudity and humor interact within the clown persona and the significance of the clown nose in shaping representations of body and gender. Key questions include: How does the perception of humor and corporeality shift in this context? How is the patriarchal gaze on bodies read as female reflected in clowning?
Through this workshop, I want to share my research, delve into the themes of clowning, and connect with others in an open, creative exchange. By exploring these questions together, we can challenge perspectives and expand the possibilities of clown performance.
