Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra announces summer concerts in the Czech Republic.

The largest symphonic youth orchestra in Rotterdam is making the music trip because of the Year of Czech Music in 2024. From 14 to 17 July 2024 the RJSO – consisting of 75 members aged 12 to 20 years – will give various performances in and around the capital of Prague. 

Under the direction of conductor Jim Roodnat, the Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra will give various concerts in and around Prague together with soprano Jana Veberová.

An open-air concert in the beautiful park of the Kačina castle

Kačina is a castle in the Empire style in the district of Kutná Hora. The castle dates back to the 18th century and is known for its architecture, beautiful interiors and the preserved original castle theater.


Concert in the Church of Saint Barbara

Venue: Church of Saint Barbara, Kutná Hora

The Church of Saint Barbara is a Gothic church from the 14th century in Kutná Hora. It is inscribed on the UNESCO cultural heritage list.


Soprano Jana Veberová  

Czech soprano Jana Veberová started taking opera lessons at the age of 13. In 1996 she took part in the Ema Destinnová International Singing Competition. After two years at the Prague State Opera, she focused on concerts at home and abroad. She released solo albums, including “What’s in My Heart of Love” and “Opera Gala”. Her most recent work, “Zdání”, shows Czech impressionism with piano accompaniment by Zora Křičková. In 2018, she also released CD ŠANSONY.


Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra  

The Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra (RJSO) was founded in 1972 and is part of the Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra Association. The association consists of various orchestras and ensembles with musicians between the ages of 7 and 26. In addition to the RJSO, the Young Rijnmond Strings, Rotterdam Youth String Ensemble, Rotterdam Junior Orchestra and the Rotterdam Student Orchestra are part of the association. In addition, several school orchestras from Rotterdam and the surrounding area are affiliated with the association. For more information: 


Year of Czech Music 2024  

2024 has been declared the year of Czech music. This is because years ending in a four have a special significance in Czech music history. The Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra has works by well-known Czech composers such as Smetana and Dvorak on the program during its tour.
