RESIDENCIES FOR 2025
STUDIO ALTA ANNOUNCES 4 OPEN CALLS

1. HOUSE UNDER THE STARS
(August 2025)
The “House Under the Stars” residency is designed for a performative art project to take place in a public space and tailored specifically for outdoor areas in Libeň and its surroundings. Given Studio ALTA’s current situation and ongoing renovations, our focus next year is on site-specific and site-generic projects that, like us, expand from black boxes into the world outside and are intrinsically connected to it. Both projects in the creation process and those in their early stages of development are welcome to apply.
A condition for participation is either a premiere or a public work-in-progress presentation in a public space at the end of the residency.

STUDIO ALTA PROVIDES:
-A fee of 30,000 CZK
-A residency lasting 14–30 days (with flexible arrangements depending on project specifics)
-Dramaturgical support for the project’s development
-7 days of full technical and production support during the project’s final phase
-A rehearsal space and indoor facilities as needed – primarily, however, we provide outdoor spaces in line with the nature of this residency
-Potential networking with Studio ALTA’s partner organizations

2. HOUSE OF RESEARCH
(April 23–May 4, 2025)
The “House of Research” is a residency program conceived as a shared space and laboratory for two individual artists and their research. It serves primarily as a space for the initial phases of inquiry, experimentation, and material creation. It allows for a deeper dive (or, conversely, resurfacing) into artistic research and offers opportunities to explore new dimensions of artistic practice. Participants may also bring existing finished works (performances, installations, objects, videos, etc.) and focus on reopening and transforming them into another form. This could include, for example, converting a performance into a workshop, text, or performance lecture.
The residency offers access to a shared studio, spaces for individual work, and facilitated meetings aimed at exchanging knowledge and practices within the group.
A condition for participation is a public outcome based on participants’ needs and preferences.

STUDIO ALTA PROVIDES:
-A fee of 12,000 CZK per person
-An 11-day residency
-Facilities: rehearsal spaces, indoor areas, and public spaces nearby

3. HOUSE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
(Date by arrangement)
The “House of Neighborhood” is a residency program for projects focusing on public space or community development. It is intended for smaller works of any format (e.g., performance, research, community service, happening) that engage with a specific community or public space in Libeň, particularly near Studio ALTA. The project may address not only the local community but also professional, cultural, or other groups, as long as it includes a socio-cultural dimension.
A condition for participation is a public outcome accessible to a broad audience.

-Facilities: public spaces near Studio ALTA and connections with local organizations

4. HOUSE OF REST
(March–November 2025)
The “House of Rest” is a five-day residency retreat for colleagues from the art scene who feel overwhelmed, under pressure to constantly produce, or simply seek a space of calm for their thoughts. This residency offers an opportunity to slow down, recalibrate artistic practice, or simply rest and recharge. It is primarily intended for those working in production, dramaturgy, curating, PR, technical, and other supportive roles in the independent art sector within the Czech Republic.
Two participants will be selected, with at least one spot reserved for a professional from Slovakia.
The final location and specific dates will be mutually agreed upon with the selected participants. The retreat may take place in nature, in a city, near the participant’s home, or elsewhere.

No outcome or participation in any activities is required.
Participants will be selected by lottery, as it is not for us, or anyone else, to decide who needs rest more. We all need it.
