Information

The tale involves two characters. The story could be told by a million tales with a million characters – tales of friendship, hardship and good fortune; tales of games that can catch us off guard and bring unexpected consequences; tales of upheavals that must come to pass; tales about the pursuit of freedoms that cannot be taken for granted.

Drawing on the grotesque and physical theatre, the play tells its tale through images, movements, situations and music. The choice of these elements reflects the two authors’ appreciation of physical theatre and they are convinced that there is no need for words in order to communicate with the audience, children, in this respect, being no exception. For the authors, children constitute an audience that can be touched by imagination and one that is learning the ambiguity of language, which can sometimes detract from the fundamental values in human relations.

For this play, Sláva Zubkov and Marek Menšík aim for a contemporary, non-verbal form of communication that can be understood by an audience of any age and of different nationalities.

Their intention is to tell the story through images and situations in order to share it with the audience, which participates in the action.

The play was inspired by the poem for children “The Cat Who Lived a Million Times” by the Japanese writer Yoko Sano.
