Information

A pond is smaller than a lake and larger than a puddle. Water appears in it and then disappears again. It seems quiet and inconspicuous. Yet when I immerse myself in it with my gaze, I see that it is full of life. I observe encounters between all kinds of species and become part of them.

The object and puppet performance Pond by visual artist Iva Ščerbáková and musician Tomáš Zahrádka invites audiences to observe the life of a temporary pond together. Over the course of the performance, it becomes a place of meeting.

The audience sits around a small basin that gradually fills with water and comes alive. They can take part in inhabiting the pond themselves or simply watch the transformations it undergoes. As the water rises, a dry and inhospitable place turns into a lively realm of ancient creatures and organisms – both real and fantastical – that depend on this cycle of dryness and water.

The performance is non-verbal and therefore free of language barriers. It is suitable for both adults and children from the age of 4. Approximate duration: 40 minutes.
