On/Crying – The Gravity of Tears is an ode to tears and the act of crying. Both performance and installation, the work invites the audience into a landscape shaped by tears. Crying is one of the most basic forms of communication, and yet many of us gradually unlearn how to cry in front of others. It has become something private.
The work leads you into The Crying Room and asks: What if crying were social? What if it were essential to creating connection between us? In a time when we skim the surface of our emotional lives, On/Crying invites us—through tears—to dive into the full spectrum of human feeling and linger there.
70 minutes / English & German / The performance includes loud music, flashing lights, audience participation. Please note that the performance touches on emotional themes and ends with a loud sound. There will be haze in the room during the performance.

Antoinette Helbing is a German choreographer, dance artist, and Feldenkrais practitioner based in Copenhagen. She is a member of the artist-run platform Dance Cooperative, driven by 15 freelance dance artists. Her work unfolds across stages, museums, installations, site-specific contexts, and film. Her practice intertwines the somatic and the expressive, allowing voice to melt into movement and body into sound. Working with fundamental human expressions such as laughter and crying, she explores emotional states and activates the audience’s capacity for feeling with each other and for connection. Helbing creates immersive social spaces that heighten the senses and invite audiences into the energetic field of the performers.
