Ice skating workshop with Katja Grohmann: Introduction to the IceLab Leipzig methods
We will expand your creative toolbox on ice skates with movement exercises from contemporary dance with a focus on contact improvisation and floorwork. You will learn how to find and use new movements and figures to keep going by yourself. You will gain an insight into the infinite potential of movement on ice skates. After a warm-up, we work on various movement tasks and your very individual prerequisites and possibilities. The focus is on authenticity and spontaneous movement development. Prerequisites: Curiosity, openness to the unfamiliar, basic skating skills (gliding, breaking).
The first part of the workshop is Off Ice, the second will translate the ideas we found on the floor onto the ice.
If you have your own ice skates, we recommend bringing them. Skates can also be rented on site for 80 CZK.

Film Screening: FREM
The film responds to the current wave of posthumanist thinking brought about by advancements in technology, artificial intelligence, and the climate crisis. Humanity is beginning to realize its insignificance and transience, placing human identity in crisis. FREM seeks to reflect this feeling, creating a dehumanized and alien perspective on landscapes and nature beyond the boundaries of human perception. Fragmented thoughts and snippets of dialogue, diverse music interspersed with noise and glitches, and a seemingly disoriented, unanchored camera craft a disquieting philosophical reflection on the limits of anthropocentric thought.

Exhibition Opening: Iva Ščerbáková / Where Are the Snow of Bygone Years: Winterology Collections
Winterology is a field of study dedicated to exploring winter. It arose from the desire and need to examine things that are disappearing, where one loses certainty—things that are transient, impermanent, intangible, and fragile. Winterology is not only a term for artistic works but also a way of meeting and acting.
Preservation of memories. Imprints of memories in objects. Visible and invisible traces of the past clinging to things and places. The memory of objects and places. Things that express a halted time, preserved just before they vanish.
“The fragility and delicacy remind me of a snowflake, but I cannot imagine a snowflake without a drift of other snowflakes, and suddenly, the fragility and delicacy disappear. Winter is something I inevitably seek refuge from, only to realize how fragile I myself am.”

Maybe I feel ok.
Maybe I feel a sense of internal urgency in my chest, like I’m running late and can’t catch up.
Maybe I’m second-guessing myself because I am alone out here and you’re watching me.
Maybe I’m wondering why I still think about skating so much — or at all — when there is so much else to think about.
Over 20 years since she last performed on ice, Becka McFadden revisits the narratives, structures and spaces of competitive figure skating.
“I am trying to understand how it shaped me aesthetically as an artist. I am trying to understand how it shaped and continues to shape the way I understand myself, particularly in response to pressure, achievement, success and failure.”
What can be let go of and what can be transformed in the flow from foot to blade, from floor to ice and back again?
