Since 2021, VIERNULVIER has been giving young people a real voice within its organization. An internal Jong Panel was established—a diverse and active group of people aged 18 to 30 who directly contribute to the institution’s strategy, communication, and programming. What began as a research project has gradually become a stable and structural part of how the cultural center operates.

Building on this experience, the partner project Jong Panel VIERNULVIER + Studio ALTA / Inside Out connects both institutions around a shared question: how to involve young people in decision-making, cultural policy, and the everyday functioning of organizations. Shared values—civic engagement, participation, and openness—are thus translated into concrete collaboration across Europe.

These principles were already clearly demonstrated during the first public event of the Jong Panel, Kunst Onder Druk (4 September 2025), organized in collaboration with the communication department of VIERNULVIER. A representative of Studio ALTA (Orin Rodriguez) was also invited, opening up space for an initial international dialogue.

Discussions and joint meetings brought forward several key themes. Questions of European citizenship and freedom are highly relevant for the younger generation and resonate strongly. At the same time, there is a clear need to step beyond established institutional frameworks and gain experience abroad. In this context, Studio ALTA becomes the first official partner of the Jong Panel, enabling young people from Belgium to share their perspectives within a Central European environment.

Young people in the world of art and culture often find themselves at the margins, experiencing a sense of distance and limited access to the center of action. The Jong Panel disrupts this model by bringing the younger generation directly into decision-making processes. A similar approach is embraced by Studio ALTA, which has long worked with a notably young team. This intergenerational shift brings both new impulses and challenges. One of the aims of the partnership is therefore also to open up so-called “blind spots” within existing structures and to create space for their shared reflection and discussion.
